Collaboration between Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, and NEXCO West Japan: “Setouchi-Ogushi Coast Geo Walking

Posted on September 9, 2023 by News Admin

Sanuki City in Kagawa Prefecture and NEXCO West Japan Shikoku Branch will collaborate to plan a walking tour on the theme of “geo (landforms and geology)” on the city’s Ogushi Peninsula for two days from November 25 to 26.

During the tour, visitors will walk along the Ogushi Peninsula, which commands a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea, and experience the peninsula’s climate and history as revealed by the formation of the land. For lunch, visitors can taste oysters from Shido Bay, nurtured by the rich Seto Inland Sea, and sample this year’s new sake from Sanuki Winery, Shikoku’s first wine factory, located on the Ogushi Peninsula.

The tour guide for the Ogushi Peninsula will be Shuichi Hasegawa, a professor at Kagawa University who served as a guide on NHK’s “Bratamori. As chairman of the Sanuki Geopark Preparatory Committee, Hasegawa is working to have all of Kagawa Prefecture recognized as a UNESCO World Geopark. He will guide visitors on a journey that will reveal the food, climate, history, and culture of the Kagawa-Ogushi Peninsula, starting with the origins of the earth.

In addition, oysters from Shido Bay, where oyster farming is thriving, will be used to prepare the tour’s special “oyster lunch box. At Sanuki Winery, Shikoku’s first wine factory, located on the Ogushi Peninsula, visitors can sample this year’s new sake, which will be released just before the tour (November 18). In addition, a half bottle will be given to all participants.
