Izu Shaboten Park (1317-13 Tomido, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture) announced the birth of a baby northern grosbeak.
The baby was born on July 22 in the “Shaboten Greenhouse” and is a female. The baby is drinking its mother’s milk, but since it began to lose weight on its second day of life, it is now being fed twice a day by its keeper, who supports the baby’s feeding. As a result, her weight has increased from 339g at birth to 615g as of August 16, and she is growing steadily.
The parent and child of a northern grosbeak can be seen in the display area in the “Shaboten Greenhouse”.
