The symbol of Ginza is transformed into Disney & Mickey Mouse! I asked Seiko for an overview of the first ever redecoration & went up to the clock tower.

The 2.4-meter-diameter dial was redecorated with a Mickey Mouse design for the first time in its history, and an overview meeting was held on August 9 to introduce the “Moments of Magic at the Clock Tower” exhibition and sales event that will start on August 10.

The clock tower is the most appropriate place to celebrate our 100th anniversary,” said Mr. Niwazaki, Seiko Group Managing Executive Officer.

At the briefing, Ms. Kiyoko Niwazaki, Seiko Group Managing Executive Officer, gave an overview of the project. She explained that the company wanted to deliver three elements to Disney’s 100th anniversary celebration event: “craftsmanship,” “time,” and “place.

The “craftsmanship” and “time” are exemplified in “Moments of Magic at the Clock Tower,” which will start on August 10, Seiko Watch, Seiko Time Creation, and Wako have each prepared special products with craftsmanship that will impress the guests with their aesthetic sensibilities. He also told us that the venue was designed to resemble the interior of a clock tower.

As for the “location,” he introduced the Clock Tower, which will be redecorated for a limited time starting October 5. He said that the clock tower, a landmark of Ginza, was chosen as “the most appropriate place to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary” and that he decided to apply a Mickey Mouse design to it.

He also emphasized its size and the fact that it is the first project of its kind in history. It was also announced that the Mickey Mouse design will be on two sides, one on the Ginza 4-chome intersection side and the other on the rooftop side. The hour and minute hands will also be designed with Mickey’s two hands.

The unveiling ceremony will be held on October 5. At this briefing, the press was invited to the rooftop area. In a place that is normally inaccessible, they were able to experience the size of the dial, the height of the tower, and the sheer size of the project as well as the vastness of the Ginza sky.
