Tokyo Metro has announced that it will start a “verification experiment of a ride service using credit card touch payment and QR codes” during FY2024. The company had already conducted a QR code ride experiment on the Marunouchi Line from April to June 2023.
In the experiment, passengers will be able to use the service by purchasing a ticket in advance and holding a touch-sensitive card or a QR code displayed on a smartphone over an automatic ticket gate. The results of the experiment will be used to study the implementation of a post-payment service using credit cards, etc.
