Yasukuni Shrine holds “Mitamatsuri” festival with over 30,000 lanterns and paper lanterns floating in the night sky

Posted on July 16, 2023 by News Admin

Yasukuni Shrine will hold the “Mitamatsuri” festival from July 13 to 16. The gates will open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. during this period.

The Mitamatsuri festival was started in 1947 to comfort the souls of the war dead. During this period only, visitors can visit the courtyard at night, and original tenugui hand towels, hozuki lanterns with seven-color LED lights, and other items will be distributed.

Kitchen cars will also be set up in the outer garden “Garden of Rest,” where visitors can enjoy the festival with delicious food.
