ICOCA supports Apple Pay, enabling payment and recharging with iPhone and Apple Watch.

Posted on July 2, 2023 by News Admin

JR West has launched a service that allows ICOCA IC card tickets to be used with Apple Pay. The service is available for iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16.0 or later installed, or Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watch OS 8.7.1 or later installed.

If you transfer or issue a new ICOCA card to the Wallet application on your iPhone or Apple Watch, you can pay for transportation and purchases simply by touching the terminal. If you set your credit card to the Wallet app or ICOCA app, you can recharge your card or purchase a commuter pass without having to wait in line at a ticket machine. The accumulated WESTER points can be used for recharging with the ICOCA application.

To add the card to the terminal, tap the add button (+) in the Wallet application on the iPhone, select “Transportation IC Cards,” then “ICOCA,” and follow the on-screen guidance. In addition, if you download the ICOCA application and register as a WESTER member, you will be able to purchase new commuter passes, make refunds, and use support from the Support Center (*Some ICOCA cards cannot be transferred).

ICOCA with Apple Pay can be used with the Express Card function, which allows the card to be used without unlocking the device or launching the app, and the standard “Find Me” app can be used to remotely lock and locate a lost device. Also, with iPhone XS or later, the payment function can be used for up to 5 hours even if the device needs to be recharged.
