After the bridge was closed to traffic on June 27, preparations were made to cut both ends of the existing bridge and slide it in place. After that, the piers were aligned, welded, connected to the existing bridge, and pavement and demarcation lines were installed, with inspections to be conducted on June 8.
The construction work closed the road for as long as two weeks, and as a result, “traffic congestion occurred mainly on the Bayshore Route,” and although the estimated time between Daikoku JCT and Ukishima JCT was 40 minutes (usually 30 minutes), the actual time was up to 45 minutes, and from Kasai IC to Airport Chuo IC, which is in the opposite direction, the estimated time was 60 minutes (usually 30 minutes), but it took 50 minutes. As for the general roads, “increased traffic congestion was observed on the industrial roads and Daiichi Keihin (National Route 15) due to the concentration of traffic,” according to the company.
Nobuhiro Maeda, President and Representative Director of Metropolitan Expressway, also commented on the termination of the road closure due to the construction in a news release.
