Express Reservations/Smart EX to Revise Fares this Fall. New “EX Early Special 28 Wide” from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka for ¥12,240

Posted on June 2, 2023 by News Admin

JR Tokai, JR West, and JR Kyushu will implement fare revisions for the Express Reservation and Smart EX online reservation and ticketless boarding services for the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen lines. Implementation will begin in the fall.

While non-reserved ordinary car seats will remain unchanged, the discount rate for reserved ordinary car seats and green car seats will be reduced, and seasonal fares (normal, off-peak, peak season, and busiest season) will be introduced. In addition, the company will introduce season-specific fares (normal, off-peak, peak season, and busiest season). When using the Shinkansen Nozomi and Mizuho, the same additional amount as for ordinary express tickets will be applied.

The price for the complete section of the Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo to Shin-Osaka) and the complete section of the Kyushu Shinkansen (Hakata to Kagoshima-Chuo) will remain unchanged, but the price for the section of the Sanyo Shinkansen will be revised to the same price as the ordinary limited express ticket when using a reserved seat or green car of the Shinkansen Nozomi or Mizuho.

Newly established “EX Early Special 28 Wide

In addition, “EX Early Special 28 Wide” is newly established, offering the cheapest Shinkansen Nozomi service from Tokyo, Shinagawa, and Shin-Yokohama to Nagoya, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka by making a reservation at least 28 days prior to the boarding date.

As an example, Tokyo/Shinagawa-Nagoya will be sold for 9,700 yen (1,600 yen discount) instead of the usual 11,300 yen, and Tokyo/Shinagawa-Shin-Osaka will be sold for 12,240 yen (2,480 yen discount) instead of the usual 14,720 yen. This service will also begin in the fall of 2023.
