The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Republic of Djibouti on May 25 for a grant of up to 590 million yen for the “Medical Equipment Improvement Project at the Tertiary Care Hospital in Djibouti City.
In Djibouti City, where more than half of the total population (approximately 1 million) is concentrated and urbanization is progressing, tertiary care hospitals that provide advanced medical services are extremely important. Each of the four hospitals in this project plays a core role in providing medical services in their respective fields. However, due to aging medical equipment and functional decline, they are unable to provide accurate and prompt diagnosis and treatment.
This project will provide medical equipment and guidance on comprehensive medical equipment management methods to four tertiary care hospitals in Djibouti City (Peltier General Hospital, Barbara Hospital, Dar El Hanan Maternity Hospital, and Shakib Saad Omar Respiratory Hospital) in order to strengthen the diagnostic and treatment systems of each hospital. The program is designed to strengthen the diagnostic and treatment systems of each hospital.
The implementation of this project will contribute to SDG Goal 3 (health and well-being for all) as it will help improve the quality of healthcare services in the country. It will also contribute to the promotion of universal health coverage, which is a development goal of the country and was the focus of attention at TICAD 7, and to the realization of human security and the establishment of a strong and sustainable economic and social infrastructure to achieve the SDGs, as set forth in TICAD 8.
