On May 22, the Dubai Economic and Tourism Authority held a seminar for the media in Tokyo, the first such event in six years, featuring a presentation by Shahab Shayan, senior manager of international operations at the agency, focusing on the latest information on Dubai.

In his opening remarks, Ken Hamaguchi, head of the Japan Office of the Dubai Economic and Tourism Authority, noted that Dubai was one of the first countries in the world to resume accepting tourists during the pandemic, and that currently there are no certificates, visas, or other procedures, and Japanese citizens can smoothly enter the country as long as they have a passport.

He also introduced Emirates Airlines’ resumption of flights from Haneda to Dubai in April and Edihad Airlines’ five weekly flights from Abu Dhabi to Kansai International Airport in October, stressing that “the UAE has further expanded options for Japanese people.

Shahab Shayan, Senior Manager of International Operations, was the next speaker and gave a presentation on the current situation and updates in Dubai.

According to the report, the number of international visitors to Dubai in 2022 was 14.36 million, a significant increase compared to 7.28 million in 2021. That number has been growing steadily this year, with the first quarter of 2023 (January-March) recording 4.67 million visitors, a 17% increase over the same period last year. The number of visitors from Germany, Russia, and China are particularly notable.

Dubai is well known in Japan for its Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, ultimate luxury, and desert, but there is more to Dubai than that,” said Shahab Shayan, emphasizing that Dubai is a destination that can offer a variety of experiences.

One of these is “beach resorts”. Dubai has miles of beautiful beaches, many beach resorts, beach clubs, and family-friendly water activities.

Furthermore, Dubai is not only attractive for its sea, but also for its beautiful mountains. In the popular mountain area of Hatta, visitors can enjoy mountain bike trails, camping and glamping under the stars.

In his presentation, Shahab Shayan stated that the biggest misconception about Dubai is that “you have to be wealthy to enjoy it.” Shahab Shayan said that the biggest misconception about Dubai is that “you have to be wealthy to enjoy it. He strongly emphasized that visitors can enjoy Dubai at a reasonable price, pointing out that there are many free attractions such as the Dubai Fountain, and that transportation costs, including cabs, are lower than in other countries.

He also said that the situation is attractive enough to enjoy even for a short stay or stopover.
