On May 16, Nreal Japan held the “REAL Air Express Tour,” an event for the press to experience the “Nreal Air” smart glasses on board a chartered Tokaido Shinkansen train.
At the event, various demonstrations using Nreal Air were conducted on Nozomi No. 225 cars 15 and 16, which departed from Shinagawa Station at 11:07 a.m., utilizing the “Tokaido Shinkansen Charter Car Package” that JR Tokai began offering at the end of last year.
The centerpiece of the demonstration was “Nebula for Windows,” which combines with a Windows PC to create a multi-screen environment.
Nreal Air was first introduced as a device that could be connected to high-end Android smartphones to experience the world of AR/VR and view various video content as if it were on a large screen, but then an adapter that could be connected to iPhones and game consoles was released Later, an adapter that can connect to iPhones and game consoles was released, and “Nebula for Mac” was released to realize a multi-screen environment on macOS.
In this demonstration, “Nebula for Windows,” which is currently under development, was shown, and it was confirmed that, like macOS, 3-screen multi-screen and 32:9 widescreen are virtually realized within Glass. When zoomed in, the left and right screens protrude from the field of view, but by shaking one’s head in that direction, one can feel as if the display were right there.
While it is possible to create a multi-screen environment using an external display, tablet, or in-room TV at a hotel, it is difficult to do so on a Shinkansen bullet train or in an airliner, where this hands-on event was held.
Nebula for Windows/Mac is an effective solution for such situations, and can be used not only for travel, but also to solve the problem of not being able to install a large display due to the small size of the home or office.
