Hawaiian Airlines Announces 787-9 Cabin Design. New Business Class is the “Lei Hoku Suite

Posted on May 18, 2023 by News Admin

Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled the interior of its Boeing 787-9 aircraft and its new premium cabin (business class), the Leihoku Suites.

Inspired by the voyages of ancient Polynesians, the “Leihoku Suite” is scheduled to begin operating on select routes in early 2024. Leihoku means “circle of stars” in Hawaiian. Through bold textiles, lighting inspired by Hawaiian sunrises and sunsets, and curvilinear design inspired by wind and waves, the space was designed to evoke the natural beauty of Hawaii.

The cabin ceilings mimic the sky, creating sunrise, sunset, and starlight. In the Rayhawk Suite, the starry sky overhead is reminiscent of the constellations that guided Polynesian voyagers at night.

The cabin also pays homage to Hawaii’s pristine nature with natural wood grain wall panels and lavatory flooring inspired by black volcanic sand. Seat row numbering and other signage incorporates the Hawaiian language, and laminates and fabrics throughout the cabin are inspired by the forms of native Hawaiian plants.

Of the 300 total seats, the 34-seat Rayhawk Suite features full-flat seats, an 18-inch screen for in-flight entertainment, personal power outlets, and wireless charging. The seats, which have direct access from the aisle, are arranged in a 1-2-1 arrangement across the door, allowing passengers to enjoy privacy or share the space as a double seat where they can sleep with a view of the ceiling.

The main cabin features 266 Collins Aerospace aspire seats with ergonomic backrests and armrests, maximizing seat area and providing more back and seat space. 12-inch seatback monitors and USB Type-A and USB Type-C charging The 79-seat “Extra Comfort” model offers ample legroom and power outlets.
