On April 19, five JICA experts who have worked on JICA projects in various countries met Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino at Akasaka Imperial Villa to report on their activities.
Since 2004, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino has been receiving visits, but due to the Corona disaster, the last visit was postponed until March 2019. This time, after a four-year absence, the event was resumed, and five guests from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa were honored with a visit.
Sustainable and Effective Maternal and Child Care through Dissemination of the MCH handbook in Ghana Specialist Omachi introduced a new integrated MCH handbook (integrated for expectant mothers and infants), rolled it out nationwide, and worked to create a system for its sustainable use. They also contributed to strengthening the capacity of health workers and others and developing educational materials to realize quality mother-child care using the MCH handbook.

To improve the capacity of the National Disaster Prevention Institute (NDRI), a training institute for disaster prevention, we have been working on disaster prevention training course content, manuals, and teaching materials under the guidance of expert Hasegawa, which will be used for nationwide disaster prevention training. In addition, the online training system was improved to enable external access to course materials, etc., and efforts were made to develop human resources for disaster management.
To strengthen the groundwork for getting the Community for African Rice Development (CARD) activities off the ground in Sub-Saharan Africa to double rice production, Haneishi helped the CARD Secretariat coordinate with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the 32 member countries and donor countries, to develop a national rice promotion He also assisted in the development of a strategy paper and the promotion of project implementation in line with the strategy. In addition, CARD’s website visualized the project by displaying a map showing the status of achievement of indicators and donor activities in each country.
