Repeaters go to Saipan for the first time in 3 years. After the Corona disaster, what is really going on there now?

Posted on May 9, 2023 by News Admin

Flight to Saipan and Hotel Access Now it’s time to get to Saipan! With United Airlines’ nonstop service, access to Saipan is now about 3.5 hours, the same as when Delta Airlines and Skymark Airlines began service. The flights depart from Japan every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 9:25 p.m., and from Saipan every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:00 a.m., with three round-trip flights per week. The minimum trip length is 4 days/3 nights (departing Tuesday/Sunday) or 5 days/4 nights (departing Thursday), and since the flights depart late at night/early in the morning, the free time available is 2 or 3 days, respectively. Although Saipan is not a large island, access from the airport to some large resort hotels may take 30-45 minutes by car. The arrival time is after 2:00 a.m., but as part of a campaign to celebrate the launch of direct flights (see below for details), shuttle buses to major large resort hotels are currently running in conjunction with departures and arrivals. Some hotels also offer airport shuttle service, and there were a good number of cabs waiting for passengers at the airport (one person who took a cab told me that the fare was $25 for a hotel near the T Galleria (According to the person who took a taxi, the fare was $25 at a hotel near the T Galleria). Saipan is a fairly safe place, but it is better to avoid late-night travel because of the presence of dogs (both domesticated and stray) walking around in the middle of the night. Shuttle buses are convenient for getting from major hotels to the airport on the day of return. However, the schedule is quite early: the flight from the Kensington Hotel (formerly Hotel Nikko) in the northernmost part of the island departs at 3:50 a.m., and the flight from the Granviglio Resort in Garapan departs at 4:25 a.m., both stopping at four hotels in total before heading to the airport. Reservations are not required, but be careful not to miss the flight as they depart on time.

Areas to stay on Saipan After arriving late at night, and after a good night’s sleep and refreshment, your vacation on Saipan can begin. Let me give you a brief overview of areas to stay and activities on Saipan. The tourist center of Saipan is the Garapan area, where large resort hotels and numerous restaurants and stores are concentrated. The area where the Hyatt Regency Saipan and Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan are located has been a “downtown” area for a long time (it has been a bit lackluster in recent years: ……), but after the Corona Disaster, it was redeveloped. The area has been redeveloped after the Corona disaster. Currently, the main street “Paseo de Marianas,” which used to be a wide promenade, is undergoing complete renovation. Some stores are closed or vacant, but long-established restaurants and bars popular among locals are still in business. In the same Garapan area, the area where the Granviglio Resort and T Galleria are located, there is a large souvenir store “ABC Store”, “I Love Saipan”, and a local supermarket “Joteng Hafadai Shopping Center”, which are convenient for shopping. The restaurants in the Granviglio Resort are located on the upper floors facing west, so if the weather is good, you can enjoy a spectacular sunset view during the early dinner hours. The prices are not too different from restaurants in town, so if you want to enjoy the view and a meal, this is a good choice. In addition, in the area centered on the T Galleria, which is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the south and east, there are many small and medium-sized hotels and restaurants, including the Sunflower Hotel, which offers reasonably priced accommodations and has a restaurant and supermarket that are popular with the locals. It is interesting to take a walk and look around. Be careful, however, as it is hot and sunny during the daytime throughout the year. Be sure to take sunshades and drink plenty of water (mineral water is available for around $1 and up). In addition, there are large resort hotels in the central, southern, and northern regions of the island. Some of them are the type where you can enjoy spending a whole day inside the hotel, but a vehicle is necessary to get to the Garapan area, which is convenient for shopping and dining. The author once had a bittersweet experience of walking from a resort hotel in the south to Garapan with a light heart, thinking that the coastal promenade was scenic and a good place to take a walk, and arriving there after more than an hour with considerable regret……. The scenery was excellent, but the I was a little bit bitter.
