Vocalist Kotone’s Music Trip] A rainy day trip to Atami! We were very satisfied with the exquisite food, art, and architecture!

When it comes to Atami, seafood is the first thing that comes to mind! Lunch with a huge bowl of seafood Although Atami is easily accessible by train, this is the first time for me to drive there by myself. Since I was going to Atami, I wanted to eat seafood, so I decided to have lunch at “Atami Ginza Osakana Shokudo,” which is popular for its kaisendon (seafood bowls). Many restaurants near Atami Station do not have parking lots, so I parked my car in a nearby coin-operated parking lot and got in line. Coin-operated parking in the vicinity of Atami Station has different rates on weekdays and weekends, and sometimes there is a time limit on the amount of time you can park. While waiting in line, the waiter explained the menu and took our order ahead of time, so even though it was crowded, we were able to enter the restaurant smoothly. We were seated after paying in advance. I ordered the “Luxurious 7-color bowl of sakura sea bream,” which is only available in spring, and my friend ordered the famous “Kaisen Teppen-don,” or bowl of seafood tops. I was worried that I would not be able to finish it because it looked so big in the picture. I was worried about whether I could finish it, but the actual bowl was about the size of a rice bowl, with enough rice and fish for even a woman to eat. However, it was not small in any way, and was packed full of contents. The seasonal sakura sea bream and the complimentary fish broth and sesame sauce can be used to change the flavor, so you will never get tired of eating it until the end. The waitress took a picture of us when our bowls arrived, and it was a very enjoyable experience.

Enjoying the MOA Museum of Art, which pursues the beauty of Japan After filling our stomachs, we headed for our destination, the MOA Museum of Art, by car. There are about four buses an hour from Atami Station to the MOA Art Museum (depending on the time of day), so it is very accessible even if you do not have a car. After climbing up the mountain road, you may wonder if there is really an art museum in such a place. I was worried, but when I arrived, the MOA Art Museum, an artistic building, appeared at a location with a great view. My friend said that she had been curious about this place since an acquaintance had recommended it to her, saying that the building itself was also very nice. This time, “Joruri Monogatari Emaki” (Joruri Monogatari Picture Scroll), an important cultural asset of the Iwasa Matabei World of Superior Colors, was on display, and I was drawn in not only by the beauty of the picture scroll but also by the interesting storyline. I enjoyed the patterns of the characters’ kimonos, the intricacy of each bird’s feather, and the different colors and materials used in the painting. The museum also has a Noh theater, where Noh and Kyogen plays are sometimes performed. Watching Noh performances in an art museum with a view of the sea in Atami is a luxury that can only be described as chic. Another advantage of the MOA Museum of Art is that it has many cafes and restaurants. I had already eaten this time, so I had coffee at “the cafe,” but my friend and I were talking about having lunch at the MOA Art Museum next time. The location of the museum is also great, as it is located on a hill and has a great view of the ocean. And the kaleidoscopic movement of light with music in the underground circular hall is so fantastic that you can’t stop looking at it. I was “taken away” by the lights. My friend and I lost track of time for a while.
