Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen introduce “S WorkP seat” with partition in the center seat.

Posted on April 24, 2023 by News Admin

JR Tokai and JR West will introduce “S WorkP seats,” which will feature a partition in the center of a three-seater seat to allow passengers to work comfortably in the train starting October 20.

In the S WorkP seats, only 10 seats are available, and a partition has been installed in seat B, which is in the center of the three-seater seats. The S WorkP seats, of which only 10 are available, have a partition in the center of the three-seat B seat. This will increase the space between the A and C seats and allow passengers to work more comfortably.

The table is also equipped with a mechanism that tilts when the table is slid to the hand side, making it easier to input data using a laptop computer or other device. In addition, since it is difficult to open a notebook PC when the seat in front reclines too far, the reclining angle of all seats in S Work vehicles will be made smaller than before (starting in July).

Reservations for S WorkP seats will be accepted on October 18 through EX Service, and can be made by paying an additional 1,200 yen to the price of a regular reserved seat in a regular car. Other seats in S Work trains are available at the same price as regular reserved seats. The service is also scheduled to start sales at station counters around spring 2024.

S Work cars, which were previously available only on “Nozomi” trains, will now also be available on “Hikari” and “Kodama” trains. A logo indicating that the car is an “S Work car” will be displayed on the side of the car.

The “business booths,” which have been introduced on a trial basis in some N700S trains, will be introduced in all N700S trains by the end of FY2024.

Reservations are made by scanning the QR codes posted on the seats of S Work vehicles, and payment is made by credit card.

In addition, with the change to a fee-based system, facilities have been improved: USB ports (Type-A/C) are available for rapid recharging of smartphones, and electric locks linked to the reservation system will be installed.
