Oku-Ibuki Kanko will open the Dodogatake Lift (Oon, Kinomoto-cho, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture) on April 22.

The lift takes about 6 minutes to the old battlefield where the battle of Shizugatake (Mt. Shizugatake) was fought in the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568-1600), and from the top of the mountain, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of Nagahama City, Lake Biwa and Lake Yogo. This season, the lift is scheduled to be open until November 30, and 50,000 visitors are expected to use it, up from 45,889 last year.

From mid-April to mid-May, the clustering shagas are at their best, and the light purple flowers spreading out at one’s feet can be seen while riding the lift. A hiking trail that takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk from the Dokigatake ancient battlefield to the shore of Lake Yogo is maintained, and visitors can also enjoy viewing the autumn leaves in fall.

A quiz on the family crests of warlords is available on each of the lift’s pillars. A total of 20 questions will be asked on Hideyoshi Hashiba and Katsuie Shibata, Nobunaga Oda, Toshiie Maeda, Mitsuhide Akechi, Kambei Kuroda, the Seven Spears of Dodogatake, and others, until you reach the summit at the Dodogatake Old Battlefield.

In addition, visitors who purchase a round-trip lift ticket (900 yen for adults, 500 yen for elementary school students, and free for infants) will receive a fan with designs of “History of Hideyoshi Hashiba and the Battle of Dodogatake” and “Battle Diagram of the Battle of Dodogatake.
