Daigoji Temple (22 Daigo Higashioji-cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) announced that weeping cherry trees will be at their best.

More than 700 cherry trees of various varieties are planted on the vast 2,000,000 tsubo (approximately 1,000,000 square meters) of land. Weeping cherry trees, someiyoshino cherry trees, mountain cherry trees, and yaezakura cherry trees begin to bloom in this order, but this year they are blooming earlier than usual, and weeping cherry trees will be at their best this weekend (March 24 to 26).

In the precincts of the temple, you can look up at the five-story pagoda that has stood for more than 1,000 years, surrounded by weeping cherry trees. Also, at Sanboin Temple of Daigoji Temple, visitors can view the “Taiko-shidare-zakura,” which is said to be a descendant of the cherry tree loved by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

The Reihokan area also has many cherry trees, and from March 25, visitors will be able to walk through the outer path. When the weeping cherry trees are in full bloom, someiyoshino cherry trees will also be in full bloom, and a cherry blossom tunnel will be completed on the stone-paved approach in front of Reihokan.

At the Nokyoisho (Sutra Repository), “Kiri-e Special Red Seal” will be available only for spring season of 2023. In addition, “Cherry Blossom Dancing Daigoji Temple: Taikoh Hideyoshi’s Cherry Blossom Viewing” will be held at the Daigoji Temple Reihokan until April 23.
