JAL will open a new “Sakura Lounge” at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 on March 26.
The new lounge is located below the existing “Sakura Lounge Sky View” (5th floor) near Gate 114 and has 379 seats. Together with the 403 seats in the Sky View, the new lounge will approximately double the size of the existing lounge.
The lounge will be open from 6:00 a.m. to the last flight departure, with Sky View on the 5th floor open from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Both lounges on the 4th and 5th floors will be open during the morning and evening hours when most flights depart, while the newly built 4th floor will be open during the rest of the day.
To use the lounge, you must have an eligible boarding class ticket or JAL Mileage Bank/JAL Global Club membership status. Please check the website for details on criteria for use.
Explaining the new lounge, Mr. Shoji Iwamoto, General Manager of the Product & Service Development Department, said that the lounge was originally scheduled to open in time for the expansion of slots to and from Haneda in the summer of 2020, but the opening itself was postponed due to the Corona disaster. He then said that after six months of preparation in response to the return of overseas demand after the fall of 2022, it was decided to open in time for the summer timetable on March 26, 2010. The airline is also scheduled to operate the Haneda-New York route in the upcoming winter timetable with a new Airbus A350-1000 international aircraft, which should further increase demand for lounges, he said.
The lounge is decorated in the same “modern Japanese” style as the other Sakura lounges, with each area showing different expressions, such as Japanese paper and cherry blossom art, granite stone walls, wall art made of rice paper and eggshells, and projection of images using a projector. Large, well-lit windows provide a wide view of the tarmac and help to create a sense of openness.
When I actually entered the lounge, I found that there were a variety of desks and chairs available to suit the traveler’s situation, from one person to multiple people. For example, for a single person, there are so many seating situations that it is easy to get lost: a small round table facing the window, a long counter table by the window, and a long sofa and chair by the wall for luggage (of course, two people can use the sofa). Power outlets and USB charging ports (Type-A shape) are everywhere, so you won’t have to fight for a power seat.
