Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been handed over to the Republic of Vanuatu (hereinafter referred to as “Vanuatu”) in response to the damage caused by the cyclone that hit the country.

The emergency relief supplies arrived in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, on Tuesday, March 21. On the following day, March 22 (Wed.) at 17:00 (local time), a handover ceremony was held at a relief goods collection point in Port Vila, attended by Mr. Abraham Nasak, Director of the National Disaster Management Bureau from the Vanuatu side, and Ms. Natsuko Ajiguchi, Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Vanuatu, Ms. Rika Uemura, Branch Director of JICA Vanuatu Branch, from the Japanese side.

At the handover ceremony, Mr. Nassac expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance, and stated that the goods would be delivered immediately to the areas of Efate Island that were particularly hard hit by the disaster. In response, Counselor Ajiguchi expressed his hope that the damage from the cyclone would be brought under control as soon as possible and that the Japanese government would continue to support Vanuatu in the future.
