Weekend Ekiben] “Hakone Sanroku Pork Seared and Grilled Lunch Box” at Mishima Station

Posted on March 29, 2023 by News Admin

Mishima Station, a stop on the JR Tokaido Line/Shinkansen and the starting point of the Sunzu Line of the Izu Hakone Railway, offers a wide variety of bento lunchboxes that include the famous eel, beef from the foot of Mount Aitaka, pork from the foot of Mount Hakone, and seafood from the neighboring city of Numazu. This time, we would like to introduce the “Hakone Sanroku Pork Sashiri-yaki Bento” using Hakone Sanroku Pork.

The pork, the star of the dish, is marinated in miso and seared one by one. The sweet miso blends well with the sweetness of the fried onions spread between the rice and the pork. It should be noted that the pork is also spread out under the vegetables, which are also served with the dish. Sometimes we encounter bento boxes that claim to be a specialty, but the quantity of the main dish is slightly smaller than expected, but this time the volume was more than we expected, and we felt very satisfied.

The three types of garnish are broccoli, flower carrots, and wild vegetables. The broccoli and carrots are ones where you can really taste the flavor of the ingredients. The wild vegetables are mildly seasoned, and rather than accentuating the flavor, they are more harmonious with the flavor of the meat. Since none of the vegetables play a strong role in the dish, the seared pork leaves a strong impression after the meal.

Personally, I would have liked a little more wasabi to go with the volume of pork, but overall, the bento was very satisfying.
