Sotetsu and Tokyu opened the Shin-Yokohama Line (Sotetsu Shin-Yokohama Line/Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line) on March 18.
The first train was an eight-car Sotetsu 21000 Series train, each station bound for Urawa Misono. It departed at 5:08 a.m. from platform level 4 on the fourth basement floor. Note that the second train was a local train bound for Nishi-Takashimadaira departing at 5:21 a.m. from the adjacent No. 3 platform.
The new Sotetsu-Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line will open from Hanesawa Yokohama Kokudai to Shin-Yokohama (4.2 km) and from Shin-Yokohama to Hiyoshi (5.8 km) on the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line; together with the Nishitani to Hanesawa Yokohama Kokudai (2.1 km), which opened earlier in November 2019, the new line will complete the direct Nishitani to Hiyoshi (12.1 km) The line will be completed in November 2019.
The Sotetsu and Tokyu lines will both be directly connected to Shin-Yokohama Station, making it easier to transfer to the Tokaido Shinkansen. In particular, the Sotetsu line will directly connect to the city center via the Shin-Yokohama line, which will reduce the number of transfers and significantly shorten travel time.
For example, when looking at access from Kanagawa to central Tokyo, the Sotetsu main line departing from Ebina passes through the Sotetsu-Tokyu direct line, then connects to the Tokyu Meguro line, and after Meguro and Shirokane-Takanawa, the line splits into two routes: the Toei Mita line heading to Nishitakashimadaira and the Tokyo Metro Namboku line and Saitama Stadium line heading to Urawa Misono.
Trains from the Izumino Line departing from Shonandai will pass through the Sotetsu/Tokyu direct line, then transfer to the Tokyu Toyoko Line, and beyond Shibuya, take the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and Tobu Tojo Line to Ogawamachi.
Although the Seibu Yurakucho Line, Ikebukuro Line, and Sayama Line will not be directly connected, it will be possible to change trains on the same platform within the Tokyu Line.
