Tomei renewal work, Tama River bridge from 3 lanes to 1-2 lanes. Traffic jam up to 10km this weekend.

Posted on March 23, 2023 by News Admin

NEXCO Central Japan, Tokyo Branch Office will switch traffic operations for the Tomei renewal work being conducted on the Tomei Tamagawa Bridge (upper and lower lines) between the Tokyo IC and the Tomei Kawasaki IC on the Tomei Expressway. The period is from 11:00 a.m. on March 17 to 20:00 p.m. on March 19.

During the traffic operation changeover, the number of travel lanes will be reduced from three to one or two, and traffic congestion of up to 10 km is expected, mainly on Saturdays. The company is calling for people to consider changing their going out time or using public transportation in order to provide information on the time required and expected traffic congestion so that they can choose their travel route. Please note that there will be lane shifts and narrow lane widths in the construction zone, so please drive with caution.

In order to alleviate traffic congestion, the “Tomei Renewal Construction Traffic Jam Reduction Campaign” is underway to encourage drivers to divert to the Chuo Expressway or the Yokohama Northwestern Route. By registering in advance and driving the campaign route five times during the construction period, a QUO card worth 1,000 yen will be given as a present.

The current traffic operation is in the up lane lane separated regulation with 6 lanes, and after this construction, it will proceed to the phase of continuous day/night and lane shift regulation with 6 lanes. Furthermore, after July, the construction area will be changed to down lane lane lane separation regulation.

From late February to July 2024, the entire six lanes will be shifted to work on the outside of the downbound lanes; from mid-July to early November 2024, the construction area will be between the upbound and downbound lanes; and from early to late November 2024, the lanes will be restored to normal operation.
