In Indonesia, while the volume of cargo handled by the country as a whole has been on the rise due to rapid economic growth in recent years, there is concern about logistics stagnation due to port congestion, mainly due to an overall shortage of port capacity. In particular, the Jakarta metropolitan area, which accounts for approximately 30% of Indonesia’s GDP, is experiencing significant growth in the volume of cargo handled due to the concentration of manufacturing companies and overseas investment. Therefore, there has been a need for the construction of a new port. In 2015, the Indonesian Ministry of Transport conducted a study to examine the development of a new port, identified the Patimbang district in Subang Province, West Java as the most promising site for the development of a new port, and prepared a master plan for the new port in 2017.
Under this cooperation, a new port (container terminal, car terminal, etc.) will be constructed in Patimbang in the eastern part of the Jakarta metropolitan area, thereby strengthening the logistics function of the metropolitan area and contributing to further economic growth by improving the investment environment in the country.
