MAP (Android version), an application operated by Yahoo! MAP, offers a “disaster prevention mode” that allows users to check hazard maps and maps around their homes offline even during emergencies such as disasters and communication failures. A new feature has been added to automatically update maps that users have downloaded to their devices with the latest information when connected to Wi-Fi.
The “Disaster Prevention Mode” in the application classifies hazard information into four categories based on data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and local governments: “Landslide Disaster Precaution Zone,” “Potential Flood Zone,” “Potential Tsunami Flood Zone,” and “Ground Hardness (Shakeability),” and displays them in a superimposed format on a regular map. By displaying disaster risks in different colors, the system can also be used to help users consider evacuation routes.
To use “Disaster Prevention Mode” offline, you need to register your home or workplace and download a map of the vicinity in advance. The map can be saved from the 10th of each month to the 9th of the following month, and when the storage period expires, the map can be downloaded again by clicking the “Update” button.
