Background and Objectives
On March 2, 2023, JICA held an exchange meeting between 308 young administrative officials from 19 countries and Japanese administrative officials. JDS) as a grant aid program for receiving foreign students. To date, JDS has accepted more than 5,000 students from 19 countries for both master’s and doctoral programs in order to nurture outstanding young administrative officials who are expected to become future leaders in the target countries.
We have invited young administrative officials who came to Japan in FY2021, officials from Japanese ministries and agencies, and JICA officials to promote networking.
Contents
On Thursday, March 2, 2023, we held an exchange meeting for administrative officials, bringing together a total of 370 participants, including young administrative officials from 19 countries around the world and Japanese administrative officials.
Before the exchange meeting, four international students representing El Salvador, Ghana, Nepal, and Bangladesh met with JICA President Tanaka. After each student shared his/her appreciation for the program and how he/she would make use of what he/she learned from JDS in his/her future career path, President Tanaka gave them words of encouragement for their future activities as administrative officers and for the rest of their student life.
The exchange meeting started with a toast by Mr. Kusakabe, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was divided into the fields of governance, international relations, infrastructure, education and social welfare, and agriculture and energy, where active communication among government officials transcending national boundaries took place. Some of the international students had prepared various topics on policies in their home countries and Japan in order to exchange opinions at the exchange meeting, indicating the high expectations of the participants for this exchange meeting.
JICA will continue to provide human resource development support to young administrative officials who will contribute to solving social and economic development issues in their countries and developing bilateral relations with Japan as a bridge between the two countries.
