In Kigali City, the capital of Rwanda, there are concerns about traffic congestion, increased traffic accidents, air pollution, and other environmental impacts caused by the increase in the number of vehicles owned due to population growth. The government of Kigali revised the “Kigali City Transportation Master Plan” at the same time as the “Kigali Urban Master Plan,” and in accordance with the strategies of the Urban Master Plan, it is proposed to promote public transportation, improve the urban transportation system, and promote the construction of a sustainable transportation network. However, the Master Transportation Plan remains conceptual in nature and lacks concrete action plans and role-sharing for its implementation.
This cooperation will contribute to improving urban transportation mobility for sustainable urban development by developing policies, measures, and plans for traffic flow management in public transportation and the existing transportation network in and around Kigali, as well as appropriate management of urban transportation, thereby creating a framework in the promotion of public transportation use. We will contribute to the improvement of urban transportation mobility for sustainable urban development.
