The National Federation of Ryokan and Hotel Associations, the Japan Ryokan Association, and the All Japan Hotel Federation have partially revised the “Guidelines for Responding to New Type Coronavirus in Accommodation Facilities” based on the “Review of the Concept of Wearing Masks, etc.” of the Headquarters for Countermeasures against New Type Coronavirus Infections.
The fourth edition, effective March 13, continues to promote awareness of droplet infection control measures such as “cough etiquette,” and states that “in principle, the wearing of masks should be left to the discretion of the individual” and that “it is acceptable for businesses to request their guests and employees to wear masks for infection control or business reasons. However, it is permissible for businesses to request their guests and employees to wear masks for infection control or business reasons.
The revised regulation also states that “each lodging facility should take measures that match the actual conditions of each facility, taking into consideration the size and type of business of the facility,” including constant ventilation in eating and drinking areas and in common facilities such as bathrooms, and requesting that guests take their temperature when entering the facility and sanitize their hands at each entrance.
