Twelve retail organizations, including the Japan Supermarkets Association, Japan Department Stores Association, and Japan Chain Stores Association, have released “Guidelines for Prevention of the Spread of New Coronavirus Infections in Retail Stores [Addendum]”.

These guidelines were prepared and revised by 12 retail organizations (listed below) under the supervision of experts and with confirmation from the Cabinet Secretariat’s Office of Countermeasures to Combat New Strains of Infectious Diseases, etc., and have been used by convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurant chains, department stores, general merchandise and apparel stores, and other companies to prevent droplet infection and three-closure transmission, depending on their business categories, stores and sales areas. and three-density prevention measures have been taken by convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurant chains, department stores, and general merchandise and apparel stores.

In the addendum, the government stated that “as of May 8, this guideline will be abolished” in light of the basic policy announced by the government. It also stated that “no unified recommendation will be made for the wearing of masks after March 13th, and the wearing of masks will be left to the judgment of the individual.

The policy is that requiring users and employees to wear masks for infection control or business reasons will continue to be allowed at the discretion of individual operators.
