Special Lectures

On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, JICA Special Advisor Shinichi Kitaoka delivered the “JICA Chair Special Lecture” at the Ronderi Foundation and Tbilisi Free University in Georgia, mainly to former diplomats and other experts, intellectuals, and students.

Both lectures were entitled “Recent developments of Japan’s security and foreign policy,” and the discussions showed that Georgia, which has been affected in no small way by the war in Ukraine, has a strong interest in Japan’s security and foreign policy. At the Free University of Tbilisi, one of the three universities in Tbilisi that offers Japanese language courses, discussions were held on what Georgia should do to overcome the crisis as Russia is losing the trust of the world, the influence of the expanding China, and other issues touching on the similarities between Georgia and Japan, both of which have large countries as neighbors.
