On March 3, 2012, DeNA announced a plan to construct an entertainment complex including an arena with a capacity of approximately 10,000 people in the area adjacent to Keikyu Kawasaki Station, called the “Kawasaki New! Arena City Project,” an entertainment complex that includes an arena with a capacity of approximately 10,000 people in the area adjacent to Keikyu Kawasaki Station. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with opening scheduled for October 2028.

Jointly construct an arena at the west exit of Keikyu Kawasaki Station.

The company is also active in the management of professional sports, including the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, and is the owner of the Kawasaki Brave Thunders, a professional basketball team in the B.LEAGUE. The new arena will be the new home of the Kawasaki Brave Thunders.

The proposed site is located near the west exit of Keikyu Kawasaki Station, where KANTO Motor School Kawasaki (25-4 Ekimae Honmachi, Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture) is currently located. This land will be leased and jointly developed with Keihin Electric Express Railway. The site area is approximately 12,400 m2, and the new arena will have a capacity of approximately 10,000 people. The current Kawasaki City Todoroki Arena, where the Kawasaki Brave Thunders are based, has a capacity of approximately 6,500 people, which is 1.5 times the capacity of the current arena.

Tomoko Namba, Chairman of the Board and Representative Director, first took the stage and informed the audience that it has been 12 years since the company entered the sports business, and that the zodiac has turned full circle. She emphasized that everything is concentrated in Kanagawa Prefecture, and that Kawasaki is a place that cannot be missed. Taking advantage of its location and proximity to Haneda Airport, he called for further participation by Keihin Electric Express Railway and Kawasaki City, as well as for the development of the project.

Mr. Yukihiro Kawamata, President of Keihin Electric Express Railway, then expressed his high expectations for the joint development with DeNA. He also touched on the situation around Keikyu Kawasaki Station, saying that compared to the bustling area centered around JR Kawasaki Station, the company is undeniably behind the times. The new arena will be a great opportunity to make a big difference in the entire Kawasaki Station.

He said that, at the same time as this project, the company has begun planning the redevelopment of the west exit of Keikyu Kawasaki Station, and is also considering the development of a direct approach from the station to the lower level of the arena. This year marks the 125th anniversary of the company’s founding, which began as a line of worship for Kawasaki Daishi, and he expressed his hopes for the company’s continued commitment to the development of Kawasaki.

Norihiko Fukuda, Mayor of Kawasaki City, said the announcement was a long-awaited report, “We are very honored that Keikyu and other parties involved in the project, including DeNA’s decision to work together with us, have evaluated the potential of Kawasaki and selected us for the project. He explained that while the JR Kawasaki Station area has been undergoing redevelopment, including the construction of a free passageway at the north exit, there remains much underutilized land around the west exit of Keikyu Kawasaki Station, and that the project was a fruitful result of the policy they established to solve the problem and the coordination they made while discussing the issue with the landowners.
