From Tsuyoshi Port, located in the southeast of the island, we headed for Sasebo Port on the high-speed boat “Tsuyoshi,” which started service in October 2021. On this day, the waves were too choppy to go outside, but usually the deck area offers a view of Kita Kujuku Islands and the ships docked at Sasebo Port.
How is Mikawachi Pottery actually used? Watching the serving at Hotel Okura After learning about the place where Mikawachi Pottery was born and the techniques used to make it, we wanted to see where it is actually used. So we went to Hotel Okura JR Huistenbosch, which was also within the domain of the Hirado clan. Mikawachi ware is used in the teppan-yaki restaurant “Omurawan,” and I took a look at the actual serving of the Mikawachi ware course. From the standard Karako to cups with finely painted blue ocean waves, Mikawachi Yaki of original order is used in the “Chef’s Special Course – Japanese Heritage “Mikawachi Yaki” as a vessel” (18,000 yen). When the dish is placed on the plate, it gives the impression that the ingredients are being served in an elegant manner. The tableware from the same kiln visited earlier is also used.
