Customs Electronic Declaration, Direct QR Code Reading at Manned Gates. No more “paper is faster.”

Posted on March 4, 2023 by News Admin

Visit Japan Web, an online service for immigration procedures, has changed the method of electronic declaration at customs.

According to Digital Minister Taro Kono (@konotarogomame), in addition to registering at a kiosk terminal at customs and passing through an unmanned gate when entering (returning) from overseas, it is now possible to directly scan a QR code at a manned gate without using a kiosk terminal.

Until now, many people have operated the terminal after receiving their luggage, and this has resulted in a situation in which it is easier to pass through customs by declaring on paper. When the quarantine procedures return to the Corona Disaster on May 8, Japanese nationals will only need to have their passports scanned by a machine at immigration and pass through an unmanned gate at customs by scanning a QR code with a kiosk terminal, or pass through a manned gate by scanning the QR code directly.
