Cedar pollen season has entered in Tokyo and 20 prefectures. Be on the lookout this weekend when temperatures exceed 15 degrees Celsius.

Posted on February 22, 2023 by News Admin

Weathernews announced the fourth pollen dispersal trend on February 15. Taking into account the number of pollen detected by the pollen monitor “Pollen Robo” and reports from users, the pollen season had entered by February 14 in 1 Tokyo and 20 prefectures, including Kanto and Kyushu. In addition, cedar pollen areas are expected to further expand in western and eastern Japan by the end of this week.

Start date of scattering in each area

February 9: Nagasaki, Saga, Oita, Kagoshima

February 12: Shizuoka, Wakayama, Shimane, Yamaguchi, Fukuoka

February 14: Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Mie, Ehime, Kochi, Kumamoto, Miyazaki

The dispersion has already peaked in parts of Kyushu, and will peak in the Kinki, Tokai, and Kanto regions from late February, and in the Hokuriku and southern Tohoku regions from early March. Hinoki pollen is expected to peak in late March.

In particular, once scattering begins, there is a risk of mass scattering on warm days when temperatures exceed 15°C. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures such as brushing off pollen in front of the front door when returning home and not hanging laundry outside. In addition, high temperatures are forecast for a wide area west of the Kanto region this weekend (especially on the 18th), so it is important to take precautions.

The company’s Weather News app (Android/iOS) has a pollen Ch. function that allows users to check pollen forecasts in hourly time series, as well as data from pollen monitors installed in approximately 1,000 locations across Japan.
