In South Sudan, the level of infrastructure development is low due to the effects of years of civil war and other factors, and even in the capital city of Juba, most roads are dirt or gravel. Juba is also a node for domestic and international transportation, and the improvement of roads in the city is important from the viewpoint of improving logistics as well as increasing the convenience of people’s movement. Therefore, the government of Juba is currently developing the city’s road network based on the “City Trunk Road Plan,” which the Japanese government supported in its formulation. However, some of the bridges on the city’s trunk roads are narrow, creating traffic bottlenecks, and others are poorly constructed or deteriorated, making them dangerous and difficult for heavy vehicles to pass through. The bridges are also difficult for heavy vehicles to pass through.
This cooperation aims to improve traffic convenience and logistics by replacing four bridges on arterial roads in Juba City, thereby ensuring safe passage and increasing traffic capacity.
