On January 27, JATA (Japan Association of Travel Agents) announced comments by its chairman, Hiroyuki Takahashi, in response to the government’s decision to move the new coronavirus from a category 2 equivalent to a category 5 virus.

The travel industry welcomes the decision to move the classification of the new coronavirus from Category 2 to Category 5 under the Infectious Disease Control Law, effective May 8.
Although the new corona infection is still something to keep in mind, this transition will lead to a true normalization of socioeconomic activities and people’s daily lives, and is expected to stimulate the local economy through increased domestic human flow and international exchange, including travel to Japan and overseas.
We believe that the same measures as for seasonal influenza, including the elimination of the requirement for three doses of vaccine or negative certification 72 hours prior to entry into the country, are necessary.
