Cold wave may intensify again on the 29th. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism makes emergency announcement for heavy snow

Posted on January 24, 2023 by News Admin

On January 23, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) issued an emergency announcement regarding heavy snowfall.

From January 24 to 26, the strongest cold air of the winter will flow into the Japanese archipelago, resulting in heavy snowfall and accumulation over a wide area, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, which calls for precautions against heavy snow, snow storms, blowing snow, and frozen road surfaces due to low temperatures.

The strong winter pressure pattern is expected to ease around the 27th, but is likely to intensify again through the 29th. In the event of heavy snowfall, the government has announced that people should refrain from going outside unnecessarily, and if they have no choice but to drive, they should install winter tires, carry chains and install them as soon as possible, and carry shovels, sand, etc.

In the past, heavy snowfalls have had a tremendous impact on the area, mainly due to large vehicles getting stuck, and they have requested the implementation of wide-area detours and a review of the traffic routes.

Public transportation systems are also likely to experience extensive and prolonged delays and cancellations, so please continue to pay attention to the latest weather and traffic information.
