Local Souvenir Selection] “Ototo Senbei” and “Kamado Pie” as Kagawa Souvenirs

Posted on January 23, 2023 by News Admin

This time, we will introduce two carefully selected products from Kagawa Prefecture. Kagawa Prefecture is the smallest prefecture in Japan, yet it is well-known for its “Konpira-san” shrine, and its “Kintohira-gu Shrine,” which is famous for its scenery that looks like a Ghibli movie. Although Kagawa Prefecture is the smallest prefecture in Japan in terms of area, it is home to many attractive spots such as Konpira-san Shrine and Shodoshima Olive Park, which looks like a scene out of a Ghibli movie. Please make it a souvenir to remember your trip.

Zoya Motozo “Ototo Senbei

Kagawa Prefecture faces the Seto Inland Sea and has a thriving fishing industry. Ototo Senbei is a product that makes use of the whole seafood caught there. Recently, seafood crackers made by pressing and baking squid and shrimp have rekindled popularity on social networking sites, but there has been a culture in the Seto Inland Sea coastal areas of Japan since the Taisho era (1912-1926) of eating crackers made from small fish and shrimp that were around at the time.

Zoya Motozo, headquartered in Takamatsu City, has inherited this tradition and handmade them in the traditional way. Fresh ototo (fish) from the market is carefully prepared and thinly baked one by one without any additives so that the flavor of the ingredients can be tasted directly.

In addition to horse mackerel, octopus, squid, kisses, and flounder, depending on the season, there are also rare local fish such as shrimp with a delicious miso paste around the head, high-class wrasse, ishimochi, known locally as guchi, gobies, and kochi. The lineup looks like a “specimen of fish” and is a visually pleasing souvenir.
