National travel support resumed on January 10, and each prefecture is offering a flat 20% discount to visitors (up to 5,000 yen per night for travel products with transportation/up to 3,000 yen for other products) and distributing regional coupons (2,000 yen per night for weekdays/1,000 yen per night for holidays) that can be used to purchase souvenirs and other items.
In addition to this, some prefectures are implementing their own measures to stimulate tourism demand, such as adding to the amount of regional coupons (names and granting methods vary from municipality to municipality) (e.g., “Chiba supports nationwide travel and adds 2,000 yen to regional coupons, granting up to 4,000 yen per night to the first 1 million visitors in order of their stay. (e.g., “Chiba’s National Travel Support, a unique measure to add 2,000 yen to local coupons.)
The implementation period of the national travel support and independent measures will end as soon as the budget is reached, and those who wish to receive subsidies must have a defined vaccination history and negative proof such as PCR testing.
