East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will switch the Yamanote Line’s outer tracks at Shibuya Station. After the construction, there will be one inner and one outer platform at Shibuya Station.
As a result, trains will be suspended all day on some sections. The period is from the first train on January 7 to the last train on January 8. The construction work is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. on January 6 and last approximately 53 hours and 30 minutes until the first train departs on January 9.
The service will be suspended between Osaki, Shibuya, and Ikebukuro on the Yamanote Line. In addition, the number of trains between Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and Osaki will be significantly reduced, and trains will turn back toward Tokyo at Osaki Station. For the Inner Circular, the number of trains will be reduced between Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and Osaki, with some trains turning back toward Ueno at Ikebukuro Station.
During this period, trains on the Keihin Tohoku and Negishi Lines will stop at every station throughout the day, and rapid service will be suspended. The Saikyo and Rinkai lines will operate extra trains between Shinkiba, Osaki, and Akabane, and trains directly connected to the Sotetsu line will operate an extended service between Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. The Shonan Shinjuku Line will operate normally.
The following lines will be affected by the suspension: all Tokyo Metro lines, all Toei Subway lines, Rinkai Line, Seibu Railway: Ikebukuro Line (between Ikebukuro and Tokorozawa), Shinjuku Line (between Seibu Shinjuku and Tokorozawa), all Seibu Yurakucho Line lines, Kokubunji Line (between Kokubunji and Higashimurayama), Haijima Line (between Ogawa and Kodaira), Tamako Line (between Kokubunji and Yasaka), Tokyu Toyoko Line (between Shibuya and Musashi-Kosugi), all Ikegami Line, all Meguro Line (between Oimachi and Jiyugaoka), all Tokyu Tamagawa Line ～Tokyu Toyoko Line (between Shibuya and Musashi Kosugi), all Ikegami Line lines, Oimachi Line (between Oimachi and Jiyugaoka), Meguro Line (between Meguro and Musashi Kosugi), all Tokyu Tamagawa Line lines, and Keihin Kyuko Main Line (between Sengakuji and Shinagawa).
