Water Supply Improvement Plan in Managua City

Posted on January 9, 2023 by News Admin

In Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, water demand is increasing rapidly as the population grows. However, in addition to a shortage of water sources and reservoir capacity, leaks due to aging facilities and insufficient water pressure management capacity have made stable water supply a challenge.

In response to this situation, the Government of Japan, through a technical cooperation project, supported the formulation of a master plan for the improvement of water supply facilities and the strengthening of implementation capacity to reduce non-revenue water. However, in order to effectively utilize these achievements and improve the water supply service of the National Waterworks and Sewerage Public Corporation (ENACAL), which is responsible for water supply and sewerage services in the Tokyo metropolitan area, in addition to repairing leaks from the water transmission and distribution facilities and installing distribution ponds to optimize water pressure, inverters need to be installed on intake pumps at existing wells and aging water pumps need to be replaced. In addition, it is necessary to improve energy efficiency by installing inverters on intake pumps at existing wells and updating aging water pumps.

This cooperation will reduce operation and maintenance costs and improve the efficiency of water transmission and distribution by installing the equipment and materials necessary to reduce water leakage and improve energy efficiency, thereby contributing to stabilizing water supply services and improving the living and sanitary environment of residents in the target areas.
