The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of Senegal on December 28, 2022 in Dakar for a loan of up to 10 billion yen for “Development Policy Loan for the Education Sector”.
This project aims to promote the formulation and implementation of policies to improve access, quality, and management of education in Senegal through financial support for strengthening primary and early secondary education. At the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) held in Tunisia in August 2022, Japan announced its support for Africa to “improve children’s learning and provide quality education, including STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education) to 9 million people. This project is a part of the support measures to “improve children’s learning and provide quality education, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, to 9 million people” for Africa.
In addition, JICA has long cooperated with the education sector in Senegal with the aim of improving children’s learning. This project will contribute to the nationwide dissemination and establishment of the math learning improvement model (a package of educational improvement activities through exercises using math workbooks, capacity building of teachers, regular learning evaluations, and functionalization of school management committees) developed in the “Primary Education Math Skills Improvement Project (Phase 1 and 2)”, as well as to the development of teaching materials and teacher training. The program also contributes to the promotion of the development of teaching materials, teacher training, etc.
Through this project, we will promote economic and social stability and development efforts in Senegal and contribute to SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Goal 4 (quality education for all).
