Fisheries Vocational Training Center Facility Development Plan

Posted on December 30, 2022 by News Admin

Mauritania has good fishing grounds in the Atlantic Ocean, and the fishing industry is a pillar of the national economy. Historically, the country’s fishing industry has developed driven by corporate offshore fishing by foreign vessels and coastal fishing by migrant fishermen mainly from neighboring countries, and is supported by fishing vessels and migrant workers from Senegal and other countries. The fishing industry is supported by fishing vessels and migrant workers from Senegal and other neighboring countries. Therefore, there is an urgent need to train fishermen from their own countries who catch and process fish in order to ensure sustainable development of the fishing industry and employment for their own people.

The Fisheries Vocational Training Center (CQFMP) Nouakchott Headquarters is a core institution that provides training in purse seine fishing for inexperienced fishermen and training in seafood sorting and seafood processing for employment in private seafood processing plants. However, it faces problems such as inadequate capacity and aging as a training facility, lack of and aging equipment for practical training, and inadequate accommodation facilities.

This cooperation will strengthen Mauritania’s fisheries training system and capacity through the reconstruction and expansion of the Fisheries Vocational Training Center (CQFMP) Nouakchott headquarters and the provision of equipment, thereby contributing to the development of the country’s fisheries industry workers.
