Traffic regulations for Senso-ji temple’s Hatsumode 2023, Kaminarimon-dori/ Namiki-dori closed to vehicles from Jan. 31 to Jan. 3.

Posted on December 28, 2022 by News Admin

Regulation Date

December 31, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

January 1-3, 2023, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day

Kaminarimon-dori and Namiki-dori (part of Namiki-dori) will be closed to vehicular traffic on the above-mentioned days and times, and visitors should follow the instructions of police officers and staff on site and use detour routes (such as Asakusa-dori). Parking meters on Kaminarimon-dori will be closed all day until the traffic restrictions are lifted.

Senso-ji Temple also imposes entrance restrictions on the temple grounds from January 1 to 3, when crowds are expected to be the heaviest, and calls for cooperation in staggering the time and schedule of the temple to allow for a more relaxed approach to the temple. For information on the opening hours of the Main Hall (New Year’s Day praying hours) and the items to be awarded (good luck charms, prayer cards, red seals, omikuji, etc.), please refer to the special page on the official website.
