Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to restrict traffic on January 2-3 due to the “Hakone Ekiden” at the beginning of the year. Partial vehicle restrictions on National Route 1 will be guided by a detour map.

The Metropolitan Police Department will enforce traffic regulations on surrounding roads (between Tokyo and Kanagawa) in conjunction with the 99th Tokyo-Hakone round-trip university ekiden relay race (Hakone Ekiden) to be held at the beginning of the year.

Regulation date and time (return trip)

Lake Ashinoko to Rokugo Bridge: January 3, 2023, approximately 7:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Rokugo Bridge – Otemachi: January 3, 2023, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Due to traffic restrictions, the Ekiden course and surrounding roads will be congested, and motorists are asked to refrain from leaving their cars on the course (parking is prohibited on the Ekiden course). (Parking is prohibited on the Ekiden course.) For detours, please follow the instructions of police officers and event officials on site.
