Metro Manila Subway Project (Phase 1) (Phase II)

Posted on December 27, 2022 by News Admin

Despite overcrowding due to population growth, the Metropolitan Manila area lags behind in the development of track-based public transportation as a means of mass transportation, with the total length of the three elevated rail lines (two of which are lightweight) within the metropolitan area being only 50 kilometers, and traffic congestion is becoming more serious. The economic loss caused by such traffic congestion has become a bottleneck for smooth logistics and mobility, and is a factor that reduces the Philippines’ international competitiveness. To alleviate overcrowding and traffic congestion in the center of Metro Manila, the government of the Philippines plans to strengthen the public transportation network connecting the center of the metropolitan area and the suburbs through the development of a large-scale public transportation system that will form a north-south axis of Metro Manila, and to promote the planned expansion of the urban area along this north-south axis and a shift to public transportation. The plan is to promote the planned expansion of urban areas along the north-south axis and a shift to public transportation.

This cooperation will help to meet the increasing transportation demand in Metro Manila and contribute to alleviating the severe traffic congestion in Metro Manila, as well as alleviating air pollution and climate change by building a subway system in the metropolitan area.
