The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) of up to 15 billion yen with the Government of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire on December 21 in Abidjan for the “Emergency Assistance Loan for Food Security”.
In Côte d’Ivoire, 95% of farmers, or 40% of the working population, are smallholder smallholder farmers. The global rise in grain and fertilizer prices has restricted access to these commodities, greatly affecting the food production of small and marginal farmers and leading to a national food security crisis.
This project aims to promote the supply of quality seeds of food crops such as rice in Cote d’Ivoire, which is affected by the food security crisis, and to strengthen the country’s agricultural infrastructure, thereby contributing to economic and social stability and promoting development efforts in the country. Contribute to Goal 2 (zero hunger) of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
