Oigawa Railway, in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Nagashima Dam and Chubu Electric Power Company’s Shizuoka Hydro Center, will conduct special tours of undisclosed areas.
The tour will take visitors on the Oigawa Railway between Senzu Station and Igawa Station to Nagashima Dam (Kawane Honmachi, Haibara-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture), the only multi-purpose dam on the Oigawa River, and Igawa Dam (Igawa, Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture), the first hollow gravity dam in Japan, to see the inside, which is usually closed to the public, while listening to explanations by staff members.
The 25.5-km stretch of the Igawa Line, which takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete, offers many interesting sights, including the steepest gradient in Japan and the Sekinosawa Bridge, which is the highest bridge in Japan above the riverbed. For lunch, participants can enjoy a special lunch box made with local ingredients from “Alps-no-sato” run by mothers in the Igawa area. Participants will also receive a “dam card” for both Nagashima Dam and Igawa Dam. An outline of the tour is as follows. For more details, please refer to the tour flyer (PDF).
