Tokyu Corp. to conduct the first demonstration experiment in the Tokyo metropolitan area of using credit cards to pay for rides with a touch of a button.

Posted on December 10, 2022 by News Admin

Tokyu Corporation, in cooperation with Tokyu Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC, will begin demonstration experiments on ticket sales and ticket gate entry/exit using Visa and other “credit card touch payment” and “QR codes” on the Tokyu Line.

This is the first experiment of its kind for railroads in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and will be conducted at some stations in the Denentoshi Line in the summer of 2023 and at all stations on the Tokyu Line in the spring of 2024.

While the transportation IC cards used by many people will be the mainstay of the service, the company aims to realize a ride service that utilizes touch payment and QR codes, such as Visa, which are widely used in major countries around the world, in order to provide services with greater speed.

By purchasing a ticket in advance on the ticket sales website, passengers can pass through the ticket gate by holding a credit card or QR code compatible with touch payment over the reader of the ticket gate.
