JR Hokkaido and JR East are running a joint promotion, “Tsugaru Kaisen -2022 Winter Campaign-,” to encourage use of the Hokkaido and Tohoku Shinkansen lines, through February 28, 2023.
Posters featuring the “Tuna Showdown” between Hokkaido and Aomori caught in the Tsugaru Straits in winter will be displayed in Hokkaido, Tohoku, the Tokyo metropolitan area, and other regions. Digital signage in stations and trains will show a PR video of the two competing for the best taste of each tuna.
The special website also introduces recommended spots selected by the “Tsugaru Kaikyo Tuna Girls’ Club,” including restaurants and seasonal events where you can taste tuna from both regions. Vote on the site for the tuna you would like to eat from either Hokkaido or Aomori, and post your vote on Twitter with the phrase “#TsugaruKaisen” to receive special offers at the following cooperating restaurants.
